The LANAP Procedure in Portland Oregon

A Minimally-Invasive Gum Disease Treatment That Works

Gum disease is reaching epidemic proportions in Portland and around the country. It’s a serious condition that if left untreated can cause serious complications to your dental and overall health. But too many people fear the pain, side effects and complications associated with surgical gum disease treatments more than the disease itself.

Luckily there’s a better option.

LANAP® is a minimally-invasive form of laser gum disease surgery that does not harm healthy tissue. In fact, it regenerates it! For most people, LANAP® is simply the best way to treat gum disease.

The Advantages of LANAP®

Latest Technology! Less Discomfort! Better Results!

• The PerioLase® MVP-7™ is a “smart laser” that can distinguish between healthy and diseased gum tissue.
• In 2005, Dr. Blodgett became Portland’s first dentist to be trained in the LANAP technique!
• LANAP® treatments are less painful than any other gum disease treatment.
• You’ll see nearly immediate improvement in the health of your gum tissue without painful follow-up treatments!

Dr. Blodgett and his team are all amazing. It’s obvious Dr. Blodgett cares about your oral health but he cares about your entire wellbeing, too.

I would recommend Blodgett Dental Care to everyone in Portland.

How Does LANAP® Work?

LANAP-logo
Traditional gum disease surgery uses a scalpel to cut away both healthy and unhealthy tissue. You lose healthy gum tissue and the tissue that is left is usually swollen and very sore following the procedure.

LANAP® uses a laser to remove only diseased gum tissue and specifically targets the bacteria primarily responsible for gum disease. The result is less pain and less bleeding than traditional gum disease surgery.

The LANAP® Procedure

1) Measuring Your Gums
2) Removing Bacteria
3) Cleaning & Stimulating Healing
4) Restoring Gum Tissue

When the LANAP® procedure begins, Dr. Blodgett will measure your gums to check the severity of gum disease.
Using a laser, gum-disease causing bacteria are killed without damaging healthy tissue.
Calculus deposits are removed from below the gum line and ultrasonic instruments are used to stimulate bone and gum tissue regrowth.

Throughout the procedure, you’ll be amazed at your level of comfort– especially if you’ve heard horror stories about traditional gum disease treatments. You might need a few aspirin, but you’ll likely feel good as new within a day or so!

The LANAP® vs. Surgical Gum Disease Treatments

LANAP ® Surgical Treatments
Healing Time? Fewer cuts and stitches mean faster healing times. Painful cutting and scraping is often painful and leads to longer recovery times.
Comfort? Many patients require almost no pain medication & are back to normal in less than a day! Longer recovery times and multiple treatments can cause pain, discomfort, and infection.
Gum Recession? LANAP® actually promotes the growth of healthy gum tissue Surgical treatments unnecessarily remove healthy gum tissue.
