LAPIP Portland – Laser Assisted Gum Disease Treatment
The LAPIP Procedure in Portland Oregon
Minimally-Invasive Laser Periodontal Therapy for Implants
When it comes to missing teeth, implants have been a game-changer. Unfortunately, research shows nearly 80% of patients with implants will experience some sort of complication, including “peri-implantitis”: a bacterial infection of the gum and bone around the implant. Traditional treatment is a costly, painful, lengthy process, which removes both healthy and diseased tissue. If untreated, it can put your dental and overall health at risk.
There’s a better option.
LAPIP is a minimally-invasive method of laser gum disease treatment that helps regenerate healthy tissue instead of destroying it. For most people who have dental implants, LAPIP is simply the best solution for gum disease around implants, also known as “peri-implantitis”.
The LAPIP Protocol
Less discomfort and better results!
• The PerioLase® MVP-7™ is a “smart laser” that can target diseased gum tissue without damaging healthy tissue.
• LAPIP offers a shorter recovery time than traditional peri-implantitis surgery because it doesn’t involve replacing the implant.
• Ultrasonic instruments used in the LAPIP treatment can stimulate the growth of bone and gum tissue, speeding the recovery and healing process.
• You’ll experience less pain and less bleeding than with surgical gum disease treatments.
• In 2005, Dr. Kelly Blodgett became the first dentist in Portland to be licensed to perform the LAPIP protocol.
Dr Kelly Blodgett rocks! He’s got it all: stellar “chair-side” manner second to none…a wonderful communicator; bright modern office with hi tech whenever it’s needed; efficient, capable and courteous staff; but most importantly, Dr Blodgett loves his work, and he is really, really good at it.
I highly recommend Blodgett Dental Care to anyone.

How LAPIP Works
Traditional gum disease treatment is a serious surgical procedure that often involves removing the implant, rebuilding the bone, and using a scalpel to cut away gum tissue before finally placing another dental implant. The result? You lose healthy tissue and your gums are typically swollen and sore following the procedure.
Created by the inventors of the LANAP® protocol, the Laser Assisted Peri-Implantitis Procedure, (LAPIP) uses the latest laser technology to remove only diseased gum tissue. It specifically targets the bacteria that are causing your gum disease and leaves healthy tissue intact.
The LAPIP Procedure
In our Portland office, our LAPIP treatment uses a Millennium Dental Technologies’ PerioLase® MVP-7™ laser and is effective at saving healthy tissue and treating peri-implantitis.
If you’ve heard horror stories about painful gum surgery, you’ll be amazed at your level of comfort through the entire LAPIP procedure. Many patients choose to take a few aspirin, but you’ll most likely feel back to normal within a day or so!
In only one LAPIP treatment session, patients will see:
• An immediate reduction in inflammation
• Regeneration of healthy bone and gum tissue
• Consistent, positive results
LAPIP vs. Traditional Gum Disease Surgery
|LAPIP||Surgical Gum Treatments|
|Healing Time?||Laser gum treatments like LAPIP involve no cutting of gum tissue, meaning you’ll heal faster.||Cutting and scraping (not to mention removing implants) is painful and leads to longer recovery times.|
|Comfort?||The high-tech lasers used in LAPIP treatments create a comfortable experience.||Cutting and suturing plus multiple follow-up treatments can cause prolonged pain and discomfort.|
|Gum Health?||LAPIP lasers cause significantly less bleeding and inflammation compared to traditional methods.||Surgical treatments typically use less precise tools, resulting in the loss of healthy gum tissue.|
|Safety?||The less invasive LAPIP treatments reduces the risk of infection.||Long recovery times and multiple treatments increase your risk of infection.|
|Convenience?||Patients who receive LAPIP treatments in our Portland office often report that they can return to their daily routines almost immediately.||Excessive discomfort and longer recovery times take more time out of your life and can prevent you from returning to your schedule.|
