Holistic Restorative Dentistry

Blodgett Dental Care Welcomes a New Age of Restorative Dentistry.

At Blodgett Dental Care, we are finished with the traditional “drill, fill and bill” approach to dentistry. Instead, we continually pursue learning so that we can consistently bring better solutions to our guests. Let’s face it: in the past, even if you really liked your dentist, nobody loved GOING to the dentist!

At Blodgett Dental Care, we have changed that paradigm! By thoughtfully considering how both your oral and systemic systems interact, we provide oral care that is focused on improving your overall long-term health and well being. Additionally, we have invested significantly in proven technologies that make your experience here, dare we say…….awesome! Call us at (503) 285-3620 to find out for yourself!

Safe Mercury Filling Removal

Patient safety is one of our highest priorities at Blodgett Dental Care.  Part of our safety protocols includes minimizing your exposure to toxic substances, such as the mercury in your old silver fillings.  In June 2016, the IAOMT (International Academy of Oral Medicine and Toxicology), of which Dr. Kelly Blodgett is a member, launched its “SMART” program.

The aim of the SMART program (Safe Mercury Amalgam Removal Technique) is to minimize exposure of patients and dental teams to the toxic mercury being taken out of teeth.  Dr. Blodgett is Oregon’s first dentist to adopt the SMART protocol!

More Comfortable Fillingssmart-certified-logo

Nobody likes the sound of the dental drill!  We understand this and are one of the few dental practices in the Pacific Northwest to offer more comfortable options.  One advanced technology we use is Air Abrasion.  Air Abrasion uses a powerful stream of air and aluminum oxide particles to remove decay.  Another comfortable approach is the use of the WaterLase. By combining air, water, and laser energy, we can accurately and comfortably remove tooth decay. These methods are more comfortable because they don’t vibrate like a traditional drill.

Don’t like shots?  Both of these techniques allow us to minimize anesthetic so you won’t leave our office with half of your face feeling numb.

Are you worried about how a filling will look? We offer many options to emulate your natural tooth color.  Just let us know and we’ll go over all of your options.

We use safe materials. Fillings are made to last for years. You want to be sure the materials used are safe. We offer BPA-free composite fillings and ceramic restorations.  We are happy to work with you and your natural health care team to provide the materials best suited for your personal health needs.

If you need to get a cavity filled, we have many great choices for you.

Dental Implants

If you are missing a tooth, the best solution is to replace that single tooth with a single tooth solution, which would be a dental implant. Due to today’s advanced technology, not only are titanium implants available, which have been proven to work wonderfully as tooth replacements for the past 50+ years, but we also have zirconia implants which are white and a great option for those who don’t want metal in their mouths.

At Blodgett Dental Care, we believe that you should have the benefit of options. Ask us which implant system best suits your needs for tooth replacement.

Crowns

When a tooth has had a large filling placed in it – particularly if it is a mercury filling – it will eventually need a crown.  This is because when a tooth gets a silver filling, it is now permanently damaged and the tooth starts to slowly break apart.

Fillings cause broken teeth

In order to protect the tooth from catastrophic fracture, it is frequently necessary to restore the tooth with a crown.  Because of our advanced technologies such as CEREC 3D and Trios 3D CAD/CAM systems, most crowns in our office are completed in just one visit.  No messy, gagging, goopy impressions and no temporaries!  Just a quick and comfortable process to fix your tooth.

Are you concerned with having a metallic-looking tooth?  We understand and only offer crowns that mimic the look and function of your teeth!

Our crowns are built to last. Dr. Blodgett offers the new standard: Zirconia Dental Crowns. These are made of the strongest materials available for dental crowns and will last for years to come.

If you’re looking for a dental crown, we can help.

Bridges

Although bridges used to be the “go-to” solution for people who lost a tooth, it was ultimately very destructive to the supporting teeth.  Implants have now replaced bridges as the standard of care in our office.  Sometimes, however, a bridge may be the right solution for a person.

When this is the case, we use a full-color 3D scanning system to make our “impressions”.  Because this is done with a camera system, no impressions are necessary!  Just a few clicks in your mouth with the camera and the imaging is done!  This makes the process of having a new bridge SO much easier than in the past!

Root Canals

Without question, root canals are one of the “hottest” topics in holistic dentistry today.  Dentists have been performing them for years and telling their patients that it’s a good health choice.  But here is the truth:  Root Canal Therapy traps bacteria and/or dead nerve tissue inside the tooth and bone.

This dead tissue requires the body to mount an immune response so that the bone around the dead tooth doesn’t also die.  If you have already had a root canal (or more than one), then it is best to understand that (1) this tooth may be a constant “tax” on your immune system and (2) you may be healthier in the long run by removing the tooth and replacing it with something else, such as a dental implant.

At Blodgett Dental Care, we still offer root canal therapy for those patients who find that it is the best solution for their health goals.  For those who prefer to go this route, we make it clear that you should not plan on that tooth being in your mouth forever.  The best option, of course, is to engage in preventative care so that your teeth stay healthy in the first place!
