Preparing Your Body for Biologic Dental Revision

Proper preparation for biologically based dental revisions, such as root canal or metal implant removal, cavitation cleaning and healing, mercury amalgam replacement, and restoration with ceramic implants and crowns, starts long before the procedure.

Dr. Dominik Nischwitz’s Bone Healing Protocol emphasizes building a nutrient-replete internal environment so bone, soft tissue, and the immune system can regenerate predictably. Core elements include targeted supplementation of vitamin D3 with vitamin K2, trace minerals, and cofactors that support osteoblast (bone formation cells) activity and immune balance, particularly in the context of ceramic implant healing.

Diet is the daily foundation. Drawing from Dr. Steven Lin’s book “The Dental Diet,” prioritize whole foods rich in fat-soluble vitamins (A, D, K2) and minerals, delivered through a template high in quality protein, healthy fats, and clean carbohydrates (vegetables, fruit, roots/tubers), while eliminating ultra-processed foods and refined sugars that derail metabolic and oral health.

Protein is non-negotiable for collagen synthesis, immune competence, and wound closure.

Protein is non-negotiable for collagen synthesis, immune competence, and wound closure. Nutritional guidance in the month prior to and following oral surgery commonly targets at least ~1g/lb/day, distributed as 20–40 g per meal, to preserve lean mass and optimize recovery. For example, if you are a 160lb. person, you would aim to consume 160 grams of protein per day. Omega-3 fats may further aid bone metabolism and temper inflammatory cytokines (chemical messengers) relevant to osseointegration. Complementary evidence links vitamin D (with K2) and minerals to bone density and fracture risk reduction. These mechanisms are directly applicable to alveolar (jaw) bone remodeling after dental revision

To be very clear, successful biological dental care is a whole-body endeavor. By combining the Dr. Nischwitz’s Bone Healing Protocol with evidence-informed supplementation along with Dr. Lin’s unprocessed, nutrient-dense eating pattern (high protein, healthy fats, clean carbs) you prepare your biology to detoxify, quell inflammation, rebuild bone, and integrate ceramic implants and restorations more predictably and reliably.

We help guide your nutrition and supplementation several weeks before treatment and continue through recovery to stack the odds in favor of durable oral healing.
